How to deal with infertility

Mental health and fertility commonly influence one another, which is why treating and optimizing mental wellness while trying to conceive is essential. We provide support and treatment of mental health for those going through infertility.

Infertility Consultations:

  • Performed by a psychiatrist specializing in perinatal mental health
  • One-time, 75 minute visit
  • Includes a thorough medical mental health evaluation followed by personalized, comprehensive treatment recommendations.
  • A coordinated plan that can be shared with an individual’s health care team, if desired.
  • Ideal for individuals going through infertility who:
  • Have a personal or family history of mental health disorders
  • Are currently taking, or have previously taken, psychiatric medications and want education on treatment postpartum, including while lactating.
  • Are seeking recommendations on evidence-based, holistic treatment options
  • Desire a second opinion on recommendations

Medication Management:

  • Performed by a psychiatrist specializing in perinatal mental health
  • A 75-minute intake is performed, followed by 20-45 minute follow-up visits.
  • Entails a thorough medical mental health evaluation, personalized treatment inclusive of those lactating, and ongoing management of mental health concerns throughout postpartum, and into early parenthood, if needed.
  • Care is coordinated with an individual’s health care team, if desired.
  • Ideal for those who are in postpartum or early parenthood, with recent or past mental illness symptoms, and desire to be followed by an expert throughout their early parenthood journey.

Individual Psychotherapy:

  • Performed by a psychotherapist or psychiatrist specializing in perinatal mental health
  • A 60-minute intake is performed, followed by 60-90 minute follow-up sessions.
  • Includes personalized treatment, and ongoing therapy.
  • Care is coordinated with an individual’s health care team, if desired.
  • Ideal for those who are postpartum or in early parenthood, with recent or past mental illness symptoms, and who desire mental health support by an expert throughout their early parenthood journey.

Wellness Consultations:

  • Designed for those wanting more education on how to optimize their mental health.
  • Performed by a reproductive mental health specialist
  • One-time, 45 minute visit
  • Entails a brief assessment followed by personalized education
  • Focused on lifestyle changes to improve mental wellness

Seeing Through the Lens of Infertility Psychotherapy Group

Seeing Through the Lens of Infertility- 6 Week Virtual Psychotherapy Group

Infertility can be a journey marked with isolation and a rollercoaster of emotions. Join other individuals and couples walking through infertility as you share your story, build connections, and develop skills and strategies to build resilience and cope with challenging emotions.

Topics include:

  • Common emotions associated with infertility
  • The grief and loss of infertility
  • Boundaries
  • The mind body connection and mindfulness strategies

Dates: Mondays. September 27, October 4, 18, 25, November 1, 8
Time: 4:00pm - 5:30pm
Cost: $450 for individuals or $750 per couple
Location: Join virtually from anywhere in Texas

Co-Facilitator: Dr. Sarah Rivers Deal has been in the field of psychology and counseling for 22 years, and has specialized in infertility counseling, reproductive trauma, and third-party reproduction for the last 10 years. She’s a member of Resolve and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), and has been trained through ASRM’s Mental Health Professional Group. Dr. Deal also went through her own infertility journey for several years.

Co-Facilitator: Grace Rao, LMSW, received her Master of Science in Social Work from The University of Texas at Austin and is trained in perinatal grief and loss and reproductive mental health and wellness. Grace is supervised by Elaine Cavazos, LCSW-S, PMH-C.
