Everyone has a purpose to fulfill on this earth. For me, personally, I know that purpose to be one that is two-fold. One, to walk alongside you through your life-altering experience, and two, to honor you by creating a safe space to navigate this journey.
When I say that everyone has a purpose to fulfill, everyone includes you. Whether it is Motherhood, sisterhood, your career and balancing everything in between, there is purpose even in that. There is so much beauty in what we believe to be the mundane, and I want to help you explore that. My goal is to assist you in walking through the different stages and transitions that you may be experiencing. If it is stepping into Motherhood for the first or even fourth time, or the experience of grief and loss. Each pregnancy and postpartum season is different and leaves us vulnerable to a myriad of emotional and relational stress and traumas.
I received my master's in clinical social work from the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work in May of 2019. I had the honor and privilege of a lifetime to be able to work in Houston's number 1 hospital in the Child Birthing Center for 4 years which included my clinical internship. Working alongside families whose newborns were in the NICU, women who had experienced perinatal loss, and those who also experienced Birth Trauma during COVID and prior to taught me the importance of holding space for those who were experiencing complex grief and trauma as they stepped into the new season of parenting.
I understand that sometimes the trauma that one experiences in their adulthood, comes as a result of their adverse childhood experiences. That childhood experience can impact the way that you Mother or relate with people, whether it be your spouse, your family and friends.
I work primarily from a client-centered approach, which places emphasis on the therapeutic alliance between the client and therapist. My goal as your clinician in the therapeutic process is to create a safe space for you to courageously share your story. I utilize techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) and mindfulness to help you develop healthy coping skills.
Having been an advocate for women and children since the age of 16, through my own lived experience in a post-war nation, this work for me is purpose. I am committed to the healing of families--new and growing. It is an honor to be apart of the team at RPC, and I count it a privilege to be able to connect with you to support you in your parenting journey.
